Eminem is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, record executive, and actor. He is one of the most successful and highest-paid musical artists in the world. Let’s learn more about his life, career, and earnings.
On 17th October, 1972, in St. Joseph, Missouri, U. S., Marshall Bruce Mathers Jr. And Deborah Rae Mathers welcomed their son Marshall Bruce Mathers III into this world. He is of English, Scottish, German, German Swiss, Polish, and Luxembourgian ancestory. Eminem has three step-siblings: a step-brother Michael and a step-sister Sarah, who are his father’s children, and a step-brother Nathan Kane Samara, who is his mother’s son. Eminem’s parents were in a band Daddy Warbucks before their separation. During his childhood, Eminem was often bullied. His mother once filed a lawsuit against the school, because of Eminem’s severely injured head. The lawsuit was dismissed because the Macomb County, Michigan judge said the school were immune from lawsuits. After spending three years in ninth grade due to poor grades and absence, he dropped out of Lincoln High School at the age of 17.
Eminem used to work several jobs to help his mother pay the bills. His rapping career started when he was 14. He used to rap with high-school friend Mike Ruby, and even had freestyle rap battles with fellow rapper Proof. At the Hip-Hop Shop on West 7 Mile, there were an open mic contests, which they attended. Even though Eminem was struggling in a predominantly black industry, the audiences seemed to really like him.
In 1988, Eminem and DJ Butter Fingers formed their first group New Jacks. It wasn’t long before they joined another group, Bassmint Production, which changed the name to Soul Intent.
In 1996, Eminem’s debut album Infinite was released, and it was a commercial failure. He had to work as a cook and wash dishes for minimum wage at that time. Those were hard times for him and his family, since their house was robbed several times, and Eminem was fired shortly before Christmas.
In 1997, his EP Slim Shady EP was released, and it caught attention of the record producer Dr. Dre. That is how their collaboration began. Eminem’s second album, The Slim Shady LP was released in 1999, and it is considered to be one of the year’s most popular albums. It even earned Eminem a Grammy for best rap album. So far Eminem released nine studio albums including The Marshall Mathers LP (2000), The Eminem Show (2002), Encore (2004), Relapse (2009), Recovery (2010), The Marshall Mathers LP 2 (2013), Revival (2017), Kamikaze (2018), and Music To Be Murdered By (2020).
Eminem’s autobiographical film 8 Mile (2002) was a critical and commercial success. He even won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Lose Yourself.
In 1987, Eminem’s mother Debbie allowed runaway Kimberly Anne Scott to stay at her home, and several years later, Scott and Eminem began their on-an-off relationship. They were married twice, and share a daughter Hailie. He has adopted two more daughters: Whitney and Alaina.
Eminem’s net worth is estimated up to $230 million.
